Following Truth

"But there were also false prophets in Israel, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will cleverly teach destructive heresies and even deny the Master who bought them. In this way, they will bring sudden destruction on themselves. Many will follow their evil teaching and shameful immorality. And because of these teachers, the way of truth will be slandered. In their greed they will make up clever lies to get hold of your money. But God condemned them long ago, and their destruction will not be delayed." 2 Peter 2:1-3 (NLT)

In 2 Peter 2:1-3, Peter warns fellow believers of the dangers of those teaching false truth. It is important for us to know truth so that we can identify the lies the enemy scatters all around us. In a culture going the opposite direction of Christ, if we do not intentionally root ourselves in the truth of God’s Word, then we will be misled.

So, how do we learn truth? By studying our Bibles and immersing ourselves in God-breathed Scripture. We can also spend time in prayer with the One who delivers truth, and He will make it known to us through His peace (Isaiah 26:3, John 14:27).  Jesus said when we abide in Him - when we remain, follow, obey, and stay in Him - we will bear His fruit. So don’t get discouraged, complete transformation doesn't happen overnight, but as we start to abide by intentionally studying His Word and seeking Him consistently, the truth will become clearer and clearer. Just by writing 2 Peter, we are learning and surrounding ourselves with truth every day this month. As we keep learning this truth, God will change our hearts and keep our minds sharp and wise as we seek to follow Christ despite the attacks of a very real and persuasive enemy. Let’s keep going together!
