When it comes to Fall decorating, my first project is always a wreath for the front door. There is just something so cozy that transpires once you place a fall wreath on your door; it sets the tone for the crisp season ahead.
For me, the “Fall Wreath Project” process is the exact same every year. I venture out to Hobby Lobby in search of the perfect floral/Fall garland to use only to discover that nothing really catches my eye. Well, nothing except for floral picks, which are the really long stemmed flowers and pieces meant to just add some extra charm to a larger arrangement. To me, the floral picks themselves are perfect all on their own (and inexpensive!). The thing about floral picks is that they are quite large -- almost too large to work with for a smaller DIY wreath unless you break them apart. And even though I know someone talented at Hobby Lobby took their sweet time to piece these picks together just right, taking them apart is exactly what I do. (But we’ll just keep that between us, okay?)
Interested? Here’s how you can use floral picks for a Simple DIY Fall Wreath.
First, gather your supplies. (This DIY is real simple, ya’ll. You only need four items!)
1. A medium sized grapevine wreath
2. Wire cutters (or if you tend to "borrow" your husband's tools like me, grab those pliers)
3. Florist wire or florist tape (go for the tape if you want to reuse your wreath)
4. Your favorite Fall floral picks
Once you have gathered your supplies, take your floral picks and separate the bunches of leaves that make up the arrangement. Then cut each piece free using your wire cutters. To be completely transparent, this step takes strength and some serious twisting. Most picks are put together using multiple pieces of wire, so be prepared to exercise some patience here.
Continue to cut until all your floral picks are in pieces. I suggest separating the pieces into groups and then laying out each piece on your wreath for placement purposes.
I recycle my grapevine wreath for every season so I find using florist tape is the easiest to put together and to take a part for the next season. But for this step, you can use florist wire, if you prefer.
After you have created your arrangement, use your florist tape (or wire) to tape the bottom of each piece to a section of your grapevine wreath. Make sure to place your pieces close enough together to cover the tape/wire.
Continue this process until you have covered your wreath! (I opted not to use the leaves from my floral picks because I love the simplicity and the color palette of the wreath without them.)
That's it! I adore how well this wreath compliments my dark-wooded door!
Yall, it doesn't take much to create something beautiful for your home. Sometimes it just takes a new perspective. Here we took inexpensive floral picks and gave them an entirely different purpose -- a simple, yet stunning, Fall wreath!
