A Holiday Prayer

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” Matthew 25:34-40

Lord Jesus, your heart is so beautiful. Being fully God, you came to earth humbly, you served us and showed us how to live. In this season where things are busy and life is full, let us not get so caught up in our lives that we forget to serve and live like you do. Give us your eyes to see the needs of others and the hurting around us. Give us a heart like yours that moves to action. Compel us to reach beyond our own comfortable circles and to be your hands and feet. Let everything we do be an effort to show your great love to this hurting world who desperately needs you. May the focus of this holiday season not be about ourselves, but may our gatherings and traditions be about and for you and your gospel. Lord, we surrender our celebrations, finances, Christmas lists, and our schedules to you. Use us, Lord. It's all about you. In your Name, Jesus, Amen.
